It was changed in 1931 to Mira Loma by which it is still known today. Then in sequence, it was known as Mountain View, Pleasant Valley, Union, Union Joint and finally Wineville. See this history page on the history of Mira Loma. Galleano Winery is the main one left in the area. Now, there are few dairies and wineries left. In the early 1930's, the dairymen and wineries began to develop here. Local residents wanted to get away from the publicity of the name of Wineville after the murders took place in the Schleisman/Wineville area. Once known as Wineville, the name was changed to Mira Loma, which means "view of the hills," after the Wineville Chicken Murders of the late 1920's. This area was originally part of the Rancho Cucamonga Valley with the Mira Loma area becoming a portion of the Jurupa Valley more recently.
